Handmade in small batches with nature’s ingredients
Ingredients + Cold Process Method
Our soaps strive to make soap from ingredients that only the earth provides. Our soaps contain only ingredients that are kind and beneficial to skin.
Beyond the Ferns is dedicated to using the oldest traditional method of making soap - Cold Process. This method allows for the therapeutic qualities of the oils to remain at a low temperature resulting in a soap that will moisturise and take care of, helping with a healthy glow. Once all the ingredients are combined and blended, they are hand poured into moulds and left to harden for a couple of days. The exciting part comes next when the soap loaves are unmoulded and sliced into individual soaps to reveal each unique bar of soap. The last stage is curing time which takes usually 4 - 6 weeks giving each soap time to harden before it goes on its first wash.
Natural Plant Oils + Butters
As a small small natural soap business we are very proud to use high quality plant oils and fruit butters to bring you a soap with the most skin moisturising benefits. Oils such as olive oil, coconut oil, castor oil, sunflower oil, sweet almond oil, shea butter and cocoa butter are sourced from a local supplier based in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. Each oil adds different skin beneficial qualities and lather to the soap. The rapeseed oil is home grown in the fields of Wicklow Town and just a stones throw from where the soap is made.
Natural Moisturiser - Glycerine
Glycerine is known as nature’s magic moisturiser as it attracts moisture to the skin alongside the our fine quality oils + butters. This natural humectant is naturally produced during the process of soap making and always remains in natural soap. . Unfortunately, this moisture gold is generally removed from commercial soaps for the purpose of making a harder bar of soap, extending a soap’s shelf life and then goes on to be sold sold separately. By extracting glycerine means that it will contribute to drying out skin causing the need to apply lotions and moisturisers. And funnily enough, these lotions and moisturisers contain that wonderful glycerine that was extracted from soap in the first place. Seems as though this is done purposely!
Pure Natural Essential Oils
To compliment the quality of the plant oils, adding pure essential oils only ever seemed the right option for scenting our soaps. Not only will they bring out the truest scent of the flower or fruit, they harness the wonderful healing properties that promotes calm, invigorate and soothe skin while of course overall well-being.
Clays + Charcoal + Powders
For soap colours, using nature’s clays, charcoal and plant powders seemed like the most natural choice. But it doesn’t stop there! All of these choices provide beneficial properties to offer skin a significant result. Clays remove impurities, polish skin and add a delicious silky lather. Charcoal detoxifies and is a good one for removing excess oils. Ideal for most teenage skin. And powders such as cacao and coffee will exfoliate skin and help to improve circulation.
Flowers + Herbs + Seeds
You’ve probably noticed by now that most of our flowers and herbs add that extra bit of decoration to the tops of these soaps. making them a pretty sight to behold while waiting their turn to be taken for their first wash. Not only are they decoration, they become that extra special ingredient when they become an oil infusion adding extra colour and therapeutic qualities. Most flowers are sourced locally and also hand picked from my garden.
